Documentation for Simple Local Avatars


WordPress is great for setting up profiles, but it can be restricting if you want to use custom profile pictures. The good news? There are other options!

For example, you can use Simple Local Avatars plugin to change WordPress profile picture, without a need of using Gravatar service.

Below, you can find a full documentation on how to install, activate and use Simple Local Avatars on your WordPress site.

Install plugin

The plugin can be easily installed with the WordPress plugin control panel.

In WordPress dashboard:

  1. Go to Plugins and click Add New to open the Add Plugins screen.
  2. Search for the plugin by entering Simple Local Avatars in the search field located at the top of the page. Note, the searched plugin might not appear first in the list, so you will need to scroll down to find it.
  3. Once you locate the plugin, click Install Now within the plugin box.

Activate plugin

To use the plugin on your WordPress site, you need to activate it after installation. Otherwise, the plugin’s functionality will not be active on your site.

In WordPress dashboard:

  1. Go to Plugins and click Installed Plugins to view your plugins.
  2. Find Simple Local Avatars in a list.
  3. Click Activate under the plugin name.

Now you should have an option for uploading a custom profile picture on your WordPress site.

Change profile picture

You can find new profile picture options under the Users tab in your WordPress dashboard.

To upload a new profile picture:

  1. Go to Users → Your Profile in your dashboard.
  2. Find Avatar section. It should be located at the bottom of the Profile page.
  3. Click Browse or Choose from Media Library to select the image.
  4. After the image selection, click Update Profile to save your changes.
