Documentation for Aquene theme

Banner for documentation for Aquene WordPress theme by Themes Harbor

This documentation is for the Aquene theme.

As the theme was created before the WordPress Block editor, this documentation includes information for both versions of the Aquene theme:

  • Block theme
  • Hybrid theme

Note, the hybrid version of the theme is no longer available for new users.

Before setup

Before proceeding to the set up process, make sure to:

  1. Download the theme from Themes Harbor
  2. Install the theme onto a WordPress website

After activating the theme, the website is ready to be set up.

Block theme

This version of the theme utilizes the block structure and is fully compatible with the Site Editor tool.

Setup instructions

Aquene block theme has full support for Site Editor. It gives you control over website layout, without using any 3rd party page builder plugins.

Install Gutenberg

To prevent problems with the Block Editor and improve support for the editor without having to wait for major WordPress updates, it is recommended to install the Gutenberg plugin.

However, the theme will also work without installing the plugin.

Customize Query block

The theme includes multiple Query Loop blocks in templates, templates parts and patterns.

All these Query Loop blocks display recent posts by default. However, it’s possible to set the block to display posts based on categories, tags, and authors.

The reason the theme does not set these filters by default is because it does not know what categories, tags, and authors your website has.

Thus, Query Loop block filters have to be set manually, based on required needs.

  • Post with sidebar

Hybrid theme

This version of theme is based on the classic theme structure but also supports the Block editor.

Setup home (blog) page

By default, WordPress displays latest blog posts on the homepage. Thus, no need to set up any new pages for a blog page. Simply, start adding posts to a website.

If the sidebar widget area is empty, blog will have a three-column layout. We recommend setting six, nine, or 12 posts per page in order to avoid gaps.

You can configure the number of posts displayed in the WordPress Dashboard at Settings → Reading, next to “Blog pages show at most.”

Create menus

The theme comes with several menu locations. Also, it includes a special menu which is designed to display social links.

Setup Featured Content

The theme supports Featured Content, which helps you engage readers by highlighting important posts. This section is shown above recent blog posts on the blog page.

Featured posts are selected by assigning them a specific tag of your choosing. To set the tag to use in the Featured Content section, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Customizer → Featured Content.
  2. In the Tag name field, add the tag you’ll use on posts to be displayed as Featured Content. For example, you could use the tag featured. Click Publish.
  3. Add the same tag to the posts (or pages) you want to display in the Featured Content area.

The Featured Content section is consisted of two sections. Each section displays a specific amount of selected posts.

In general, Featured Content only shows five featured posts based on the posted date.

The primary section displays two posts along with their title, category, and author’s name, with the post’s featured image as a background.

The secondary section displays three posts with their title and author’s name, with a round thumbnail image (created automatically) next to the titles.

Important to note, that the Featured Content requires Jetpack plugin installed on your website.
